Day Ten: Initial hiking/exploring

This morning we got up walked 50ft over to Rita's house for a great breakfast before hiking up to the Baregg hut on the ___ mountain. Before we could get started, we first went into town (Grindelwald) to get out gear for the week: boots, harness, helmets, crampons, ice picks, and other things of which I don't know the name. We took a cable car a small way up the mountain to get a start. The hike was awesome; we went through a pasture with cow and sheep and stopped for some amazing views.
Panoramas never disappoint
A restaurant used to be at the spot where we took the picture (above). The space behind us used to have field large enough to play fútbol, but the entire area suddenly collapsed when the glacier had weaken the ground.
The majority of entertainment at this morraine consisted of rolling large boulders down the side to cause mini rock avalanches. Most of our attempts were unsuccessful. -
We hiked back down after a well deserved lunch and had an alpine slide run before hopping back on the cable car.

Back down at from the mountain, we drove 5 min down to the glacier gorge. A quick 15 minute hike put us in perfect position to repel down the rock wall (guided by Johann's expertise) formed from the melting glacier. Down at the bottom, we ziplined across the freezing cold river. -Parker
